'Friends of Okanagan Rail Trail'
The Okanagan Rail Trail was built from the spirit and generosity of our communities, and support from enthusiastic volunteers. A new non-profit society, "Friends of the Okanagan Rail Trail" (FORT) has formed to support future work to make the trail the best it can be. Many of the FORT foundational members come from the Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative (the volunteer group who supported community fundraising to build the trail). The trail owner jurisdictions have endorsed FORT as the official NGO partner, and partners are now working together to determine priorities.
Core Values of FORT are:
User Experience - every hike or bike ride is a new chance for a memorable experience.
Inspiration - the stories of the trail will enrich the user experience.
Environment - the beautiful natural setting of this trail is key to its iconic qualities.
Stewardship - We all share the responsibility to respect and care for the trail and trailside areas.
FORT will support the trail through a Trail Ambassador program, communications, fundraising and trail improvement.
The Okanagan Rail Ride will provide a financial contribution to FORT. FORT will provide volunteers to welcome participants to the Okanagan Rail Trail.
